The opening ceremony of the much-anticipated 2nd Edition of UNHCR x DIMFF Mobile Filmmaking Workshop: Forced to Flee took place on 06 December 2024, at the ULAB Permanent Campus. The event marked the beginning of an inspiring journey for five selected teams who will create impactful films centered on the workshop's theme, “Forced to Flee.”

The workshop, organized collaboratively by UNHCR and the Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF), aims to empower young filmmakers to tell compelling stories about displacement and the resilience of refugees. Out of over 90 team applications, only five teams with 20 participants were selected to take part in this prestigious workshop:

Selected Teams Institutes:  American International University-Bangladesh, Daffodil International University, BRAC University, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), and Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology.

UNHCR Representatives Kevin Lindblom, Shahirah Majumdar, Mosharaf Hossain, and Mr. Shafi Saleh, alongside DIMFF Advisor Syeda Mehjabin, graced the opening ceremony. Mr. Kevin Lindblom delivered an insightful speech on the workshop’s theme, emphasizing the power of storytelling to shed light on the struggles and resilience of displaced individuals. Additionally, Mr. Shafi Saleh introduced the participants to the mission and operations of UNHCR globally.

The workshop is being led by Instructor Mohammed Farhad Hossain Fahad, who will guide the teams through four engaging workshop sessions on December 6th, 7th, 13th, and 14th, 2024. The teams will develop short films inspired by the theme “Forced to Flee,” capturing the human stories of displacement and resilience.

At the end of the workshop, the selected films will have the opportunity for direct entry into the Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) 2025. The winning film will be announced during the festival, providing participants with a global platform to showcase their work.

The closing ceremony of the workshop is scheduled for December 21, 2024, where participants will share their experiences and celebrate the completion of their creative projects.
